Take home your own gourmet mushroom log for years of mushroom harvesting!

Join us for a smaller, social distanced and safe version of the Wakefield Estate's annual mushroom growing workshop on Saturday, August 29th from 9:00-11:30 am!

After an introduction of different mushroom growing methods, we will teach you how to inoculate logs with mushroom spawn and send you home with your own "seeded" log which can provide mushrooms for up to 5 years. This is a great family-friendly event. Please bring your own drill and half-inch drill bit if you have one. All materials provided. Space is limited, pre-registration is required. Planning and Creating a Compact Orchard Workshop

Saturday, March 28, 9:00-11:00 am

Become a backyard orchardist and grow your own fruit! Even with a small yard, you can enjoy fruit from your own trees with minimal effort and cost. This step-by-step workshop will teach you all you need to know to plan and create a compact orchard for years of enjoyment. Participants will spend part of the workshop outside in the orchard for a pruning demonstration, so dress accordingly. Space is limited; Fee $20 member, $30 nonmember

Voices from our past; visions for our future

Wednesday, March 25, 6:00-7:30 pm

What would Aldo Leopold, "the father of wildlife ecology," say about the state of the world's ecology on the 50th anniversary year of Earth Day? How would he advise future generations to address climate concerns? At the third in our 2020 Stone Soup series, Ph.D. student Tara Miller will share her research on climate change's impacts on wildlife health and wildflower flowering times, and what insights Leopold leaves us in our current era. With 2020 being the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, this year's series is focusing on key thought leaders from the past whose work continues to inform and influence our knowledge and work today as it relates to the environment and climate concerns.

The program starts at 6:00 pm when guests can enjoy a bowl of homemade soup and bread before settling in to hear the speaker's remarks. Suggested donation $10. Space is limited; please rsvp by calling 617-333-0924.

This “cultivating women” symposium highlights contemporary efforts by women to create, share, and preserve greenspaces for all. This year's event will showcase the importance of community spaces in this era of increasing urban and suburban density. Join us for presentations from four dynamic women, each a leader in greening communities.
