3rd Annual Blue Hills Great Estates Fall Foliage Day
Bradley, Eustis, & Wakefield Estates show off their fall colors
Saturday, November 2, 10 am-3 pm
Three local iconic garden estates will host the 3rd Annual Blue Hills Great Estates Fall Foliage Day, showcasing their autumn landscapes and designed gardens on Saturday, November 2, 10 am-3 pm (rain date Sunday, Nov. 3). The Trustees' Eleanor Cabot Bradley Estate, Historic New England's Eustis Estate, and the Wakefield Estate and Arboretum will open their grounds to visitors to celebrate the fall season with landscape and garden tours, nature crafts, seasonal beverages and treats, and activities for the whole family.
Here at the estate, visitors can enjoy guided walks through our unique arboretum and grounds, including our new dwarf conifer collection that features over 50 species of conifers, at 11:00 am, 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm; caramel apple-making for kids and cider for adults, along with nature-based crafts and tree identification activities for the whole family. At each estate, tickets for members are $5; $10 for non-members; $20/family. Children under 18 are free.

Conifer Day Celebration and Open Garden with Experts 10/5

A day of conifer focused programs to celebrate the Wakefield Estate and Arboretum's dwarf conifer garden and our designation as a Reference Garden for the American Conifer Society
Saturday, October 5, 9:00 am (raindate: Sunday, October 6)
On Saturday, October 5 the Wakefield Estate will hold an Open Garden Day enabling visitors to enjoy the estate in its autumn glory with a special emphasis on our conifer collection. Celebrating the Arboretum's new dwarf conifer garden and designation as a Reference Garden for the American Conifer Society (ACS), this special day will include a morning of conifer-focused workshops by renowned experts from 9:00-12:00pm. Each class will run around 45 minutes. Master Gardeners can receive CEUs for attending.
The day begins at 9:00am with coffee/tea in the garden. At 9:15, the first workshop will be led by Debbie Merriam, the estate's Arboretum director, on starting and caring for a home collection of dwarf conifers. At 10:00am, esteemed landscape designer Christie Dustman and ACS lifelong member and self-described "Conehead" Elmer Dustman will lead sessions on pruning deciduous plants and conifers, demonstrating on the estate's conifer and maple collections. Finally, there will also be a hands-on session on creating a labyrinth and topiaries with 200 donated baby spruce trees. Admission for individual sessions is $10; $20 for all and includes garden admission.

Visitors who choose not to attend the educational sessions are welcome to enjoy self-guided tours of the estate and dwarf conifer garden. Admission to the garden is $5.

2nd annual Blue Hills Octoberfest at the Wakefield Estate 10/5

Join your neighbors and friends at the 2nd annual Blue Hills Octoberfest on Saturday, October 5 from 2:00-5:00 pm. Rain date: Sunday, October 6, 2:00-5:00pm.
Enjoy live music, authentic Octoberfest fare, kids activities, farm animals, garden games and locally crafted draft beer from Turtle Swamp Brewing of Jamaica Plain. The Blue Hills Octoberfest is a benefit to raise funds for the estate's environmental and outdoor education programs which serve over 2000 Boston school students each school year.
Special Octoberfest fare will feature smoked bratwurst and sauerkraut along with pulled pork and vegetarian options prepared by Keanes Wood Fired CATERING, which specializes in wood-fired catering slow cooked in their red-oak fired smokers.
Along with the festive food and craft beer, enjoy the sounds of Creek River 3 - a lively acoustic trio that plays a diverse mix of roots, country, folk and pop songs.
Tickets are $20; kids free. Tickets must be purchased in advance on-line. Ticket price includes garden entrance, one free pour of Turtle Swamp Brewing draft beer, and a raffle ticket for a special Octoberfest prize.

Relax and Rejuvenate with Garden Yoga 8/30

Enjoy a relaxing and rejuvenating outdoor yoga session in the early light of the late summer landscape on Sunday, August 30 at 10:00 am. Certified instructor Samantha Wechsler will lead a class designed for all levels of practice. Bring your own mat and dress in comfortable clothing. The class will be limited to 10 participants, face masks and social distancing are required. This session is weather-dependent and will be postponed in the event of inclement weather. Cost $15.
