Dogwoods Days at the Mary May Binney Wakefield Arboretum is the annual celebration of the legacy of Polly Wakefield’s collection of over 300 dogwood trees in full bloom. Dogwood Days 2022 features diverse events designed to showcase the spectacular late-spring blooms and appeal to all ages.

The arboretum is open to visitors every day during Dogwood Days - $5 entrance fee. For special events where tickets and/or membership required, there is a link for more information and to purchase a ticket or membership. Below is a daily schedule and brief summary of the events planned during Dogwood Days.

Don't forget to bid on the many fantastic items in our Dogwood Days Auction including Red Sox box seats, a chance to enjoy lobster rolls on a Nahant patio or a Cape Ann boat trip with 25 of your friends, a $250 gift card from Wegmans, and gift basket for your pooch from Polka Dog Bakery, plus garden advice and treasures, beer flights, several fun family items and much much more! We will be highlighting items and adding more every day until the auction ends on June 19 at 8 pm, so stay tuned!

Saturday and Sunday, June 11 & 12 - Dogwood Days Family Weekend

Dogwood Days kicks-off with a weekend full of events for kids and families. Join us for a self-guided scavenger hunt, visits with the animals, DIY picnic - and don’t miss the annual sheep shearing and sunrise birding!

Saturday, June 11

• Sunrise Coffee & Birding 7:00am

• Plant Sale (Trees and plants available include several associated with our collection such as kousa dogwoods, Japanese maples, Paperbark maples, Silver maples, Burr oak, Bitternut Hickory, European ginger, Mayapples, Petasites, and more.)

Sunday, June 12

• Animal Visits - 9:00am

Family Yoga - 10:00am

Enjoy a relaxing and rejuvenating outdoor yoga session in the early light of the summer landscape with Certified instructor Samantha Wechsler, who will lead a class suitable for all ages. Bring your own mat and dress in comfortable clothing. This session is weather-dependent and will be postponed in the event of inclement weather. Cost $20. Space is limited. Pre-register HERE,

• Dogs and Dogwoods Fun Dog Show - 2:00pm

Join us for a fun evening with wine, cheese and dogwood trees and some great trivia related to all three while touring our amazing dogwood collection in full bloom. Arboretum Director Debbie Merriam will also discuss Polly's work in selecting kousa dogwoods for their many unique features and patenting the most special trees. Cost $15. Please join us!

Thursday, June 16

• Guided Tour - 1:00pm

• Evening Dogwood Tour - 6:00pm

Polly Wakefield patented 7 very special kousa dogwoods during her life-time. She monitored her collection closely looking for unique features including bark, leaf shape, color and flowers (called bracts). She then patented these unique plants which are still available in nurseries today. Arboretum director Debbie Merriam will discuss Polly's work while taking a stroll through the collection to look at some of these unique features.

Friday, June 17

• Dogwood Days Members’ Soiree - 6:00pm (Membership required)

Join your fellow members for a casual wine & cheese soiree to celebrate the spring beauty of the arboretum and its dogwoods in full bloom.

Saturday, June 18

• Guided Tour - 1:00pm

• Dogwood Days Family & Friends Beer Garden - 4:00-6:00pm

Back by popular demand, this year’s Dogwood Days Family & Friends Beer Garden features draft beer from Distraction Brewery in Roslindale. Enjoy live music, kids activities, farm animals and delicious locally crafted draft beer. Cost $20. Ticket price includes one free pour and a grilled sausage or hotdog. (Rain date Sunday, June 19, 4-6pm).
