Holiday Inspiration with Lisa Wed. Nov 4th

Wednesday, 28 October 2015 16:12

With the holidays suddenly sneaking up, it's time for "Holiday Inspiration with Lisa," our annual holiday decoration demonstration by Lisa Ahern, floral designer for Cedar Grove Gardens. Lisa will share her tips on how to create beautiful and easy floral accents for the holiday home, emphasizing creative and fun ways to make your home and table "shine" during the holidays. Enjoy some light refreshments, mulled cider or a glass of wine while watching Lisa work her magic! Most of the arrangements created during the workshop are raffled among those present at the end of the evening. Price for the workshop, which includes light refreshments, is $20 per person, $15 for members. Pre-registration is required. For more information or to register, call 617-333-0924 x22.

Thanks to Richard O'Mara of Cedar Grove Gardens for donating all materials used at the demo and Lisa for donating her time and expertise.

Want to Get Your Hands Dirty? Drop-In Vol Work Days 10/17, 11/11

Wednesday, 14 October 2015 00:00

Our Volunteer Corps is growing, and beginning to have a real impact. If you would like to get more involved with the Wakefield Estate, you too can make a difference! Come out and get your hands DIRTY!

This fall, we are anxious to partner with corporations, churches, community groups, scout troops, families, and groups of friends who are interested in coming out for a few hours to help with fall clean-up. We have some "Drop-In Volunteer Days" scheduled on the October, and a Community Service Day on Veteran's Day, November 11. We've got lots of work to do, ranging from trail maintenance and preparation for the school trips, to fall clean-up and raking. If getting dirty isn't your thing, give us a call and we can probably find a task that will match your interests and our needs!

If you're interested in learning more about our volunteer needs and opportunities, please call Erica Max at 617-333-0924 x22.

Plant Geek Day at the Estate -a "certified" success

Tuesday, 01 September 2015 15:04

We are proud and excited to have hosted the Mass. Nursery and Landscape Associates (MNLA) Certified Horticulturalists for their annual "Plant Geek Day" on August 19. The Mass. Certified Horticulturalists (MCH) are professionals in the nursery and landscape industry who have invested the time to learn and qualify as experts in the field. A Massachusetts Certified Horticulturist has the specialized training to understand and troubleshoot both common and unique garden and landscape problems and to recommend effective solutions. As part of their day, the MCHs participated in a Plant ID challenge to identify 25 trees in Polly Wakefield's collection. No one got all 25 right, but the winner headed home with a case of Sam Adams. Thanks to Christie Dustman and Greg Dorr for volunteering their expertise to teach break out sessions on pruning and tree risk assessment.
