Summer Garden Music Series Wed. Aug. 31@ 6:00

Join us for an evening of garden music! Following the success of last year's series, we are again inviting the public to join us on the final Wednesday of August and September for an evening to stroll the gardens, enjoy a refreshing beverage and hear great music featuring aspiring local musicians. Our next summer music series will be held on Wednesday, August 31st, featuring Eric Martin, local Brush Hill resident and prominent Boston singer-songwriter and musician known for his bluesy repertoire and talent on the guitar, blues harp and vocals. Tickets $10; subject to cancellation due to weather.

Reading, Looking & Writing: Poetry Workshop 9/24

Don¹t miss our first-ever writer¹s workshop, Reading, Looking & Writing that will focus on poetry-writing with noted poet Gail Mazur. The grounds and collections of the Wakefield Estate will provide the backdrop and inspiration for a lively discussion about the origins and development of poems followed by a time for each to practice new skills and craft and share original poems. The Workshop will run from 11:00 am - 3:45 pm. Following the workshop at 4:00 pm, the public is invited to hear Ms. Mazur read poems from her published work.

Gail Mazur, a highly acclaimed writer and poet, is the founder of the Blacksmith House Poetry Series in Harvard Square, which became, with its weekly readings, a center of poetry life, bringing national and international writers to read in a lively informal atmosphere. Her first collection, Nightfire, was published in 1978, followed by The Pose of Happiness, The Common, They Can¹t Take That Away from Me, Zeppo¹s First Wife: New and Selected Poems ­ which was winner of The Massachusetts Book Prize. 

Space is very limited; pre-registration required.  $40 members; $50

Dogwood Days 2017: A Week-long Celebration

Each June, the Wakefield Estate welcomes visitors to celebrate the annual blooming of hundreds of Polly Wakefield's kousa dogwood trees. We're excited to announce that this year's Dogwood Days will include our fifth annual Dogwood Days Garden Party on June 17th (rsvp required), this year capping off a week full of special events, including open hours, guided tours, a tree sale and more. Starting Saturday the 10th, the grounds will be open daily for self-guided walks around the formal gardens where hundreds of kousa dogwoods will be at their peak bloom. This year Dogwood Days will kick off with one of the estate's most enjoyed event: Dogs and Dogwoods.

Saturday, June 10: Dogs and Dogwoods Day - one of the year's most fun events!

Monday, June 12 - Saturday, June 17 -The estate will be open to the public daily from 10am-4pm for self-guided garden tours and plant sale. Stroll about the estate grounds and formal gardens to view hundreds of breathtaking kousa dogwoods at their peak bloom. Sunday Open Hours May 15th and 22nd 1:00-4:00 pm

The Mary M. B. Wakefield Charitable Trust is excited to announce that it launched regular public visiting hours on Sunday afternoons beginning Mother's Day, May 8th from 1:00- 4:00 pm. Sunday open hours will continue on all but holiday weekends through July. Open hours will be weather-dependent, so check the website, our Facebook page, or Twitter the day of your visit if the weather is questionable. For more information, call 617-333-0924.

The Wakefield Estate -- which includes over 22 acres of formal gardens, orchards, woodlands and wetlands -- is a beautiful place for an informal stroll. The Wakefield Estate is located at 1465 Brush Hill Road in Milton, MA.
