Sunday Open Hours May 15th and 22nd 1:00-4:00 pm

The Mary M. B. Wakefield Charitable Trust is excited to announce that it launched regular public visiting hours on Sunday afternoons beginning Mother's Day, May 8th from 1:00- 4:00 pm. Sunday open hours will continue on all but holiday weekends through July. Open hours will be weather-dependent, so check the website, our Facebook page, or Twitter the day of your visit if the weather is questionable. For more information, call 617-333-0924.

The Wakefield Estate -- which includes over 22 acres of formal gardens, orchards, woodlands and wetlands -- is a beautiful place for an informal stroll. The Wakefield Estate is located at 1465 Brush Hill Road in Milton, MA. If you'd like to print out our beautiful new Pocket Guide, with a map and information about the history of the property and its special features, click here. May Stone Soup features Archaeologist Sara Belkin-Thursday, 5/19

This month we've added one last Stone Soup to our 2016 series featuring Sara Belkin, the director of the Wakefield Estate's Summer Archaeology Institute. Sara will share "the journey" of her work at the estate and her growing relationship with an Irish American family who lived there at the turn of the 20th century and their lives in Milton. Check out this youtube video to find out more about the Summer Archaeology Institute.
The program will begin at 6:00 pm with a bowl of tasty home-made soup, followed by a short presentation by the featured speaker. Space IS limited. Pre-registration is required. Suggested donation $5-10. To RSVP or for more information, please call 617-333-0924.

Help out at Volunteer Day, May 14th -12 noon - 3 pm

There is lot of work to be done preparing for Dogwood Days and a Volunteer Day is scheduled May 14th, 12 noon - 3:00. If you want to pitch in and help, or have a school, church or community group you can recruit, we need your help! Trees need to be potted up for our tree sale. Gardens need to be prepped for planting from weeding to mulching to planting and transplanting a wonderful variety of plant material. Come spend the afternoon with at the Wakefield Estate and learn about planting while helping prepare for one of Milton's biggest celebrations. High school students needing to complete community service hours are especially welcome! For more information or to volunteer, call 617-333-0924.

Backyard Homesteading: Proper Planting Techniques May 14th

Ready to get out into the yard and get to work, but feel like you could use a bit of guidance? This session on May 14 from 9-11:30 will be led by the estate's Landscape Director Debbie Merriam.will Deb will cover the basics of planting trees, shrubs, and perennials to get your plants off to a good start. After a brief classroom session, Participants a chance to practice these skills.Dress accordingly. Feel free to bring safety glasses and tools if you have them; if not, they'll be provided. Cost for this session is $20 for non-members; $10 for members. Pre-registration required.
