Wakefield Estate Welcomes Guests from American Montessori
Last week, Thacher Montessori hosted a gathering of American Montessori educators. After lunch, participants from as far away as Hawaii and Korea joined Wakefield staff for a tour of the estate. The tour emphasized the educational programs the estate offers to school children and adults, including the Thacher adolescents’ micro-business selling the Wakefield hens’ eggs on a weekly basis.
Students Begin Cataloguing Wakefield Mineral Collection
This spring, two Earth Science students at University of Massachusetts/Boston began the daunting task of cataloguing the Wakefield Estate’s vast mineral collection. Wakefield Archives Project Phase II
Graduate student interns from Simmons College sift and sort through three hundred years of documents to add to the growing archives at the Wakefield Estate. In these photos, the students examine ledgers, letters and photos from the mid-19th century. The Wakefield Estate provides graduate level fellowships and internships to provide valuable hands-on training for students from local universities.

Wakefield Trust Hosts First Annual Holiday Open House
On December 17, the Wakefield Trust hosted its first annual open house in the Davenport Mansion here at the Wakefield Estate. Visitors stopped by for an informal gathering and some holiday cheer. Wakefield staff used greens collected from the property, strings of lights and antique bird decoys to make the mansion house look festive for the holidays.
