Weigela is a genus of about 12 species of deciduous shrubs from East Asia grown for their showy spring and early summer flowers. The Genus is named for Christian Ehrenfried Weigel (1748-1831), German professor at the University of Geifswald.

Prized for its profuse, funnel-shaped, wine-red/yellow-throated flowers, it's a hummingbird magnet.A compact, densely rounded, deciduous shrub, it grows only to 3' tall with a similar spread and blooms occurs along the branches of the previous year's growth, frequently covering the entire shrub with flowers in June-July, sometimes repeat blooming in a less spectacular fashion throughout the remaining summer.
