Join us at our 5th Annual Dogwood Days Garden Party June 17th

Join us at the 5h Annual Dogwood Days Garden Party here at the historic Wakefield Estate and arboretum. This year, the party will be the final crowning event of our Dogwood Days, an annual celebration of the estate's 300 kousa dogwood trees' glorious full bloom. The Dogwood Days Garden Party is our annual fundraiser, celebrating the legacy of Polly Wakefield and her extraordinary gift to the community: preserving the Wakefield Estate and making it open to the public. This year the party will showcase hors d'oeuvres created by these six local chefs:
Chris Douglass (Ashmont Grill and Tavolo);Tony DeRienzo (Novara);
Anthony Haley (Antonio's Bacaro);
Suzanne Lombardi (The Plate);
Joan MacIsaac (Effie's Homemade);
Francis Santos (ester).
In addition, there will be live music, a silent auction and wonderful food and drinks, takes place in the beautiful formal gardens of the estate, surrounded by hundreds of kousa dogwood trees in full bloom. Tickets are $75 and must be purchased in advance. Ticket order forms can be accessed here, printed, and mailed to our address: Wakefield Charitable Trust, 1465 Brush Hill Road, Milton, MA 02186. Proceeds from this event support our educational programs.
Join us on Mother's Day for Open Hours and Tea!

We are excited to announce that we will launch regular public visiting hours again on Sunday afternoons beginning May 14th from 1:00- 4:00 pm. Our first open hours coincides with Mother's Day, so that first day, we are hosting a garden tea starting at 3:00 pm in the Front Garden. $10 donation requested for adults attending tea. Reservations are requested if you plan to attend the tea, but are not needed to enjoy a walk during open hours. RSVP by calling 617-333-0924 x22.
Sunday open hours will continue on all but holiday weekends through July 16. Open hours are weather-dependent, so check the website, our Facebook page, or Twitter the day of your visit if the weather is questionable. For more information, call 617-333-0924 or consult next month's newsletter.
2017 Stone Soup and Speaker Concludes with Tom Palmer 4/26

This month, our 2017 Stone Soup and Speaker series concludes with remarks by Tom Palmer, of Neponset River Water Association. He will discuss the creation of Blue Hills Reservation, efforts to restore its woods and how those contributed to what we see today.
Soup is served at 6:00 pm followed by the talk at 6:30. $10 suggested donation. Space is limited and this year's series has been very popular, verging on "standing room only" attendance, so pre-registration is important and required. To RSVP or for more information, please call 617-333-0924 x22.

Bring Your Family to Arbor Day 2017 Earth Celebration 4/21

The Wakefield Estate and the Milton Shade Tree Advisory Committee are collaborating for an Arbor Day Earth Celebration on Friday, April 21st from 11 am until 2 pm with a family-friendly program of activities. This event will have a "trees are great for the earth" emphasis- mashing Earth Day and Arbor Day with a fun range of activities including tree planting & give-away, make a "worm compost" session, Citizen Scientist tree phenology (observing), "BYOPicnic" and "mud and worm sundae" making!
