Description

On Saturday, April 7, from 9:00-11:30 a.m., Jen Kettell, horticultural technologist at the Arnold Arboretum, will lead a session on pruning with an emphasis on trees, shrubs and vines you might find in your own backyard. The session will begin with a 45-minute overview of the theory and practice of pruning. She will explain the reasons for pruning, demonstrate techniques, and explain how plants heal from pruning wounds.

This is a hands-on pruning workshop, so following the indoor portion of the program, participants will have the opportunity to go outside and practice some of the basics that they've learned on some of the Wakefield's collection. Participants should dress accordingly and are welcome to bring their own work gloves, hand pruners and/or saws. For more information on this workshop or to register, call 617-333-0924.

Jen is a certified arborist serving on the executive board of the New England Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture and began work at the Arboretum in 2003.
