Description

With 2020 being the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, this year's Stone Soup and Speakers Series will focus on several key thought leaders from the past whose work continues to inform and influence our knowledge and work today as it relates to the environment and climate concerns. The first of these important thinkers that we will explore is Henry David Thoreau, whose early phenology work (observing the changes in the environment over time) is increasingly relevant today. This year’s series kicks-off Thursday, January 30 with Caroline Polgar, a graduate student in the Primack Lab at Boston University, who will discuss the comparison of contemporary observations with historical observations by Henry David Thoreau, as well as phenology experiments done at the Boston Area Climate Experiment in Waltham. Caroline will also discuss her work teaching climate change to school children.

The program starts at 6:00 pm when guests can enjoy a bowl of homemade soup and bread before settling in to hear the speaker's remarks. Suggested donation $10. Space is limited; please rsvp by calling 617-333-0924.
