Sad news: Rest in peace, sweet Maisy

The Wakefield Estate lost someone special today – Maisy, one of our three Shetland Sheep. As many visitors know, Maisy had been struggling with some lameness and pain for a long time. Our best attempts to alleviate her pain had been unsuccessful and we wanted to spare her further suffering. We are especially grateful to our Landscape Director Deb Merriam for her share of kind, loving care these animals received, and her resolve that we should do right by this sweet animal, who has been a great asset and addition to our team and programs for the last four years. She will be sorely missed by all of us, especially the visiting children who enjoyed making sure that she, the smallest of our sheep at the end, got her fair share when offered their handfuls of food.

(Most of the pictures below show Maisy in younger, happier, and less painful times...)
