Raising Your Own Backyard Chickens Workshop 2/10

Have you been thinking of raising your own chickens and enjoying your own fresh eggs?

Our annual Backyard Homesteading workshop on raising backyard chickens is a great way to explore the idea. This session, scheduled for February 10th from 9:00-11:30 a.m. is designed for people interested in learning how to start a backyard chicken coop and grow healthy, productive chickens for years of enjoyment and fresh food. After the indoor portion of the workshop, there will be a tour of the coops and chicken tractors on site, so dress accordingly.

1st Stone Soup & Speaker event of 2018 Wed. Jan. 31st

Join us for our 6th annual winter Stone Soup and Speaker series of engaging talks and delicious homemade soups. This year's theme -
"Digging Deeper: 
Exploring The Wakefield Estate's Collections"
- allows for a deeper look at four different aspects of the estate's collections. To kick off the series, Executive Director Mark Smith will give an overview of the estate's collections, which include rare books, art, furniture, jewelry, archives, archaeological artifacts, and our world-class arboretum plant collection.
Save the dates - the Stone Soup and Speaker series will be held the final Wednesday of each month, January - April.
January's Stone Soup will be held Wednesday, Jan. 31st starting at 6:00 pm when guests can enjoy a bowl of homemade soup before settling in to enjoy the speaker's remarks.
This program is held in the Isaac Davenport mansion located at 1465 Brush Hill Road.

Order a Hand-crafted Holiday Wreath! Deadline: Dec. 1st

Once again this holiday season, the Wakefield Estate is taking orders for its popular hand-crafted, locally-sourced holiday wreaths. The wreaths are 18-30 inches in diameter and can be hung or used as a holiday centerpiece. The deadline to order a wreath is Friday, Dec 1; order by calling 617-333-0924 x22. Wreaths will be available for pick up at the Wakefield Estate (1465 Brush Hill Rd in Milton) during the week of Dec. 4-8. The wreaths are $35-$50; all proceeds benefit the Wakefield Charitable Trust's educational programming and Bus Fund.

Catch the Holiday Spirit at our Annual Holiday Open House 12/13-17

We hope you will join us at our annual holiday open house Dec 13th through 17th. It's a chance to get into the holiday spirit and see the historic Davenport Mansion decked out in beautiful greens and holiday decorations.
The Holiday Open House will kick-off with a reception Wednesday, December 13th from 4-8 pm with light refreshments and hot drinks; suggested donation for the reception is $10, $5 for members.
Holiday Open House visiting hours continue daily from Thursday, December 14 - Sunday Dec 17, 11:00 am-3:00 pm. Handmade wreaths will be available for purchase throughout the open house hours to help get you started on your own holiday decorations. Admission to the open house is a suggested donation of $5, members are free. Group rates are available. To rsvp for the Opening Reception or arrange a group visit, call 617-333-0924 x22.
